How to solve the error code 0x80244022: Windows Update encountered an error while checking for updates in Windows Server 2019

There are several steps you can take to solve the error code 0x80244022 when checking for updates in Windows Server 2019:

  1. Check your internet connection: Make sure your server is connected to the internet and that there are no connectivity issues.
  2. Restart the Windows Update service: Open the Services app and locate the Windows Update service. Right-click on it and select Restart.
  3. Clear the Windows Update cache: Open the Command Prompt as an administrator and type the following commands:
        net stop wuauserv
        net stop cryptSvc
        net stop bits
        net stop msiserver
        ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
        ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
        net start wuauserv
        net start cryptSvc
        net start bits
        net start msiserver
      
  4. Disable third-party antivirus software: Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus software you have installed and try checking for updates again.
  5. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter: Open the Settings app and go to Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters. Select Windows Update and follow the prompts to run the troubleshooter.
  6. Manually download and install updates: If all else fails, you can manually download and install updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
